Colorado State Patrol Releases Video Timeline of Fatal Trooper Involved Shooting
(Colorado) - Colorado State Patrol Releases timeline and narration of the events involving suspect Victor Anthony De Santiago, the gunman involved in the incident on Highway 36 just west of Federal Boulevard on September 7, 2024.
At approximately 1:18 p.m. on September 7, 2024, Corporal Tye Simcox of the Colorado State Patrol, was in his marked patrol vehicle in the center median on Highway 36 eastbound, just west of Federal Blvd.
While in the vehicle, a truck drove past and shot several rounds at the Trooper, with a single round striking him in the arm. The car proceeded to pull over on the inside shoulder, the gunman, identified as Victor Anthony De Santiago from Thornton, Colorado, exited the vehicle with a firearm and began to fire additional rounds at the windshield of the patrol vehicle. The Trooper exited his vehicle with his rifle and fired, shooting the gunman. He then applied a tourniquet, interacted with a citizen passerby offering help and worked with officers to secure the scene. The gunman was pronounced deceased at the scene, and Corporal Simcox was transported to Denver Health Medical Center for nonlife-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing and once further information is available, it will be released.
