Two-Semi Crash Shuts Down I-70

Impact area: mountain corridor near Avon closed eastbound


(Avon, COLO) The Colorado State Patrol responded to Interstate 70 around milepost 163 at 4:30 a.m. after a report of a multi-semi crash.

Colorado State troopers, local law enforcement and emergency responders arrived on scene and determined there were two semi trucks involved in the collision. One truck was westbound when it went through the left shoulder barrier and into the eastbound lanes where it collided with a semi truck traveling eastbound. 

There were two occupants in the eastbound truck. Both were transported to a local area hospital. Their conditions are unknown. There is no reported injury to the westbound driver.  Investigators suspect fatigue in the crash but are still investigating all possible causes before completing the investigation and issuing any charges.

Clean up crews are on scene and advising of a delay of more than eight hours before the roadway is fully open. Drivers are to take the alternate route on Hwy 6 to get around the crash.
