Pueblo County Dive & Rescue  Saves Three Cows from Icy Pond in Second Rescue This Week

ICY RESCUE

For the second time in 72 hours, the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office volunteer dive and fire teams along with Emergency Management staff and deputies were called out to rescue cows that had fallen through ice on a frozen pond in Eastern Pueblo County.

Monday, three cows were safely rescued by firefighters following a similar incident on Friday when two cows had to be pulled from the water.

The cows had ventured onto the icy pond, when they encountered thin ice and fell through causing them to get stuck in the water.

A passerby saw the cows struggling to get out of the icy water and wisely contacted the sheriff’s office for assistance.

In the lastest rescue, PCSO firefighters were able to break up a huge chunk of ice, allowing two of the cows to walk out with little assistance from the team. A volunteer from the PCSO dive team went into the water to put a strap around the belly to assist rescuers with pulling a third cow out of the ice and to safety.
