Obituary
Elizabeth C. Gonzales of Rocky Ford, Colorado, entered into rest February 7, 2025 at her home. Liz was born, August 25th 1945 in La Junta Colorado. She was 79 years of age. She attended school in Bristol Colorado.
In 1977, she was married to Benjamin Gonzales and was blessed with two daughters, Lorraine (Zach Whitehill) and Sandra (Marvin London). Liz was also blessed with 5 additional stepchildren, Victoria (Karl Trujillo), Mary Helen (Ron) Miner, Carlos (Sandie Gonzales), Patricia (Don Contreras), and Lenard Michael (Jane Gonzales). Liz also has a son Daniel Wilson whom she lost at the tender age of 2 in an auto accident. Liz also had 6 grandchildren, Lauren (Anthony Garcia) Gonzales, Brendan Gonzales, Camryn (Tyler Gibson) Gonzales. Isaac (Joy) Whitehill, Kyandra (Javier) Cooperwood, Danasia (Aaron Delgado) London, Marvin Jr. (Ashley Pena) London. Two great grandchildren, Kaliyah Cooperwood, and Adena Whitehill. Sister Maryann Salas of Colorado Springs, Brothers Servando Gallegos of Las Animas, Leroy Gallegos of Denver, and Flavio (Marryann) Gallegos of Fort Lyon. Liz also left behind numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews as well as cousins.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Pascuala (Perez), and Cruz Camacho, and Aunt Guadalupe Flores.
Liz (Chavela) spent her early days working hard in the Rocky Ford Creamery making ice cream, working in the hot summer fields, and graders. She also worked at Hollar Seeds for a few years as well. Then she began her career entertaining the people of Otero County over the airwaves for over 2 decades with her Fiesta Latina radio program playing music of all types from rancheras, cumbias, polkas, oldies, country, and dedications. Liz also enjoyed contracting bands from New Mexico to play in Rocky Ford Like, Roberto Griego, Los Blue Ventures, and Los Tigeres Del Norte to name a few. Chavela continued recording music for friends and loved ones until her recent sickness.
She loved going on road trips to New Mexico. She mainly loved just cruising around Rocky Ford and surrounding areas eating French fries and drinking her coffee. She also loved casinos, playing bingo at the fair, and scratching lottery tickets.
A 10:00 A.M. Rosary followed by 10:30 A.M. Memorial Mass to celebrate her incredible life will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, Colorado. Father Mathu will be officiating,
