Lamar Officials Address Dead Birds Linked to USDA-Approved Pesticide Treatment for Invasive Starling Control
"The City of Lamar has received calls and messages from concerned citizens about finding dead birds in their yards today."
"The majority are the result of a planned pesticide treatment applied in the Lamar area by a licensed United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Wildlife Services employee to control the invasive European Starling population. The permitted treatment using DRC-1339 pesticide was applied yesterday outside of City limits."
"If you find dead birds, you can either contact a local USDA representative at 303-549-0669 to remove them for you or use a rubber glove to dispose of the bird in a city trash receptacle. While there is no risk to humans from the pesticide, it is good practice to wear rubber gloves when disposing of dead animals." - City of Lamar
"This is not a Colorado Parks and Wildlife project either. USDA Wildlife Services is on their way back to Lamar to pick up dead birds. If you have dead birds in your yard please message us your address on here or text District Wildlife Manager Kevin Mahan and (719) 940-0233 and it will get passed along so they can clean them up. Thank you" - CPW
"I am writing to inform you of a planned pesticide application by the USDA Wildlife Service this week. The application is intended to control invasive European starlings."
"I was informed that there is a possibility of seeing dead birds within city limits this week as a result of this pesticide application. If you have birds on your property, place gloves on and dispose of the birds in your garbage."
"This is NOT a Lamar PD project. We are just passing on information, so you know what is happening." - Lamar Police Department
