Obituary

Michael Richard Kelly, Sr., affectionately known as Mike, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, in La Junta, Colorado, at the age of 83. He was born on April 5, 1941, in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, to Joseph and Laura (Bergeron) Kelly.

Mike embarked on his journey to Colorado at the age of 18, where he began a fulfilling career that spanned several decades. He initially secured a position with Visconti, working at the sugar factory, before transitioning to farm work under Bill Shaffer. His dedication and skill soon led him to Potts Electric, where he served as an electrician for two years. However, the majority of his professional life was dedicated to the frozen foods plant, where he worked as a compressor maintenance engineer and later ascended to the role of foreman for 50 years, until the plant's closure. Following this, he continued his legacy at the same facility as the maintenance manager under Bill McKnight, ultimately enjoying a well-deserved retirement.

Mike was not only known for his industrious spirit but also for his deep love for family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Kelly, who resides at their home in Rocky Ford, Colorado. He leaves behind his cherished children: Mike Jr. (Leslie) Kelly of Greenwood, Missouri; Darina (Jay) Bamber of La Junta, Colorado; Sarah (Randy) Garrett of Rocky Ford, Colorado; Jim (Crissy Carroll) Kelly of Craig, Colorado; and Jerry Kelly of Rocky Ford, Colorado. Additionally, Mike's legacy extends to his 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him great joy and pride. He also leaves behind his siblings, Irene Bonee, Jackie Kelly, Pat Dalgleish, Francis Kelly, and Paulette Lisi, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Laura Kelly; his son, Jerry Kelly; his grandchildren, Tabitha and Richard Good; and three brothers and one sister.

Known for his warm spirit and kindness, Mike forged lasting relationships throughout his life, and his presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. His rich legacy of family values and hard work will continue to inspire those who carry his memory forward.
