La Junta Fire Dept Responds to Out-of-Control Control Burn
At approx 347pm today we responded to a control burn that got out of control on Rd 24.5 just North of the River.
Fire was burning on both sides of the road in a large group of trees. The head of the fire had been stopped by the land owner.
Crews began extinguishing the fire in the trees.
There were 3 very large elm trees that the fire had burned up towards the top.
Crews had to use chain saws to cut the trees down to make sure the fire was out and not throwing embers into unburned areas.
A brush truck and two personnel from Rocky Ford Fire was also requested for additional resources. Crews were on scene for almost 3 hours.
After all spots were extinguished all returned to service. Thank you to OCSO for the traffic control as well.
