Attention! Rose Grim passed away on Tuesday, April 8. Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18 at the Peacock funeral home in La Junta. Please come in your old vehicles to honor her. Keep the family in your prayers.
Minutes of the April 1 meeting
President Wayne Potter called the meeting to order with 17 members present. Wayne led the pledge and Judy, the prayer.
Old Business: The "car nuts and donuts" conversation time at Daylite Donuts was a good time with 6 attending. The next time will be on April 26, place to be announced.
New members, Ben and Gwen Carter were welcomed.
Plans are still on for the poker run in May. Wayne will supervise and let us know the date.
The chili lunch at the Allens was successful with about $200 raised for club activities. Twenty-two were present.
Chuck talked about the Santa Fe trail event in Las Animas and the Manzanola car show on May 10. Both of these events are sponsored by the school youth. Other events mentioned were Lamar Days, May 17 and Florence car show, May 18. Wayne reminded us of the May 6 meeting at the La Junta Senior center, 7:00 pm. and the 411 car show in Las Animas. This show will support the first responders. On June 21, Inspiration Field is hosting a car show, and poker run to support the parks and recreation program in La Junta. Fee is $15 and includes a ticket to the barbecue.
Terry McMillian's car show on July 26 has a fee of $25 which includes a breakfast burrito, lunch, t shirt and hat.
Wayne ran down the rest of the year's activities for the club as we know them now. (Southeast Colorado Antique Vehicle Club 2025 Event & Activities Calendar)
New Business: A discussion on how to handle the trophies at the September 13 car gave insight into memories from the past. Sometimes the awards made hard feelings among members. Wayne wants to try and have the spectators make the judgement by voting for first, second and third places. It was decided to try it and see how it goes. Doug and Missy's car and tractor will be on the dash plaque this year.
The June 3 hamburger fry at the La junta City park was discussed. Richard Wittman is not able to be there for the June 3 date. It was decided to move the June meeting back to June 10 so that Richard could perform his awesome grilling of the burgers. Please mark your calendars to reflect this change. Jimmie announced that the Defrost and Debug tour will start at 9:00 a.m. at the Safeway parking lot on Saturday, April 19.
Meeting Adjourned.
