Obituary

Robert Russell Charles was born June 13, 1942 on a small farm in Olney Springs to Ruben and Freda Charles. He graduated high school with the class of 1961 in Olney Springs. His dad retired from farming and the family moved to Fowler in 1962. Later that year he went to live in Denver with his oldest sister Martha where he worked for a laundry company for a year. He then returned home to Fowler and started working for a plumber, Paul Whipple, for 4 or 5 years. He married Laura Tompkins in 1965 and they had 4 children together. He later started working for the Missouri Pacific Railroad until they went out of business and he had to take early retirement in 2004.

During his life he received several diplomas and certificates for custom furniture upholstering, fitness and nutrition, body building achievement award, a certificate of appreciation by Sage Services for invaluable service to the seniors of southeast Colorado.

Robert is survived by 2 sisters: Vesta Steinacker of Torrance, CA and Lillian Carnett of Fowler, 2 daughters: Lisa Getsey of Columbus, OH and Sally Jarrett of Bellefontaine, OH, his ex-wife Laura Bennington of Columbus, OH, 3 nieces: Kathy Lusk of Canon City, Shirley Allsworth of Fowler and Wanda Hubbs of Torrance, CA, 3 nephews: Robert Threet of Denver, Alvin Kidder of Lake Havasu, AZ and Harold Kidder of Miami Beach, FL

Service Held on Friday, September 26th, 2025 at 2:00pm at the Fowler Cemetery. Bellwood Ustick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
