Obituary

Carlos “Chooch” Vasquez, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and formerly of La Junta, peacefully entered into rest in his home on October 20, 2025. He was born August 28, 1959, in Sacramento, California, to Evelyn and Willie Vasquez. Carlos was 66 years of age. He was known affectionately as “Chooch” to everyone who knew him. Carlos was a man with a big heart, a quick wit, and a spirit that could light up any room. He will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty, and the way he always showed up for the people he loved.

Music—especially playing the drums—took Carlos to his happy place. He was a gifted professional musician with an unmatched talent, and his rhythm and passion for music left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege to hear him play. Fishing and camping also brought him peace and filled his cup, allowing him to reconnect with nature and enjoy life’s simple moments.

Some of Carlos’s greatest memories were made during Broncos games, shared with his son, daughter, niece, nephews, and many other family members. Those moments filled with laughter, excitement, and togetherness embodied what mattered most to him: family. Carlos loved his family deeply, and they brought him endless joy and pride throughout his life.

Carlos is survived by and was a proud father to Orlando Antonio David Vasquez and his wife Crystal. and Carla Darlene Vasquez. He is also survived by his father, William Vasquez; siblings, Len Gonzales, her husband Joe, and Rose Vasquez, as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who brought him immense happiness. and lifelong friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Carlos is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Margaret Vasquez, and his baby sister, Raquel Vasquez.

Carlos “Chooch” Vasquez will be remembered for his kindness, humor, music, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy of love, laughter, and rhythm will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will forever live on in our hearts, and he will be remembered for his humor, loyalty, and the unwavering support he offered to those he loved.

Services to honor Carlos’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. A Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 202 Lincoln Ave, La Junta, Colorado. A Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery and a reception will immediately follow in the church hall, where friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and celebrate Carlos’s life.
