Obituary

Daniel Sherwin Ross departed this life on October 26, 2025 in Aurora, Colorado. Born September 14, 1942 to Earl and Irene (Schultz) Ross in La Junta, Colorado, Dan spent his early years exploring the canyons, mountains, and river bottoms of Southern Colorado with his brothers and cousins. An avid hunter and fisherman, many of his fondest memories were of duck and rabbit hunting. Dan was an Eagle Scout and served as chief of the Navajo clan of the Koshare Indian Dancers.

Dan served in the Colorado Army National Guard, worked for the Colorado State Patrol in the Pagosa Springs area, NIBCO in La Junta, and spent most of his career working for the Santa Fe Railroad in La Junta. He finished his railroad career with the Denver & Rio Grande then Union Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroads in Denver.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Irene Ross; daughter, Mary K Ross; wife, Dena DeGroot; and brother, Joseph Ross. He is survived by his brother, Jim Ross; children, Dale (Dawna) Ross, Shand (DiAnna Haas) Ross, and Rebecca (John) Brindle; his grandchildren, Kristian, Sayge, Kyla, Ava, and Jinx; and great grandchildren, Kristopher, Giovanni, and Khaldun. Dan will be remembered for his wit, charm and mischievousness by all who loved him.
