Obituary

Karen Kay (Anderson) VanEgmond passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, in Aurora, Colorado surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 27, 1946, in Auburn Washington, Karen lived a life marked by compassion, service, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Karen pursued a career in nursing and graduated from Otero Junior College in 1982 with her LPN license. Her dedication to caregiving extended beyond her professional life and was evident in the many ways she supported those around her.

Family was at the heart of Karen’s world. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Virginia, and sons, Kevin (Krystal), Richard (Trish), and RJay (Vanissa). Her legacy
continues through her grandchildren: Mathew (Emily), Garret (Tracey), Rene, Sandy (Aspen), Kourtni, Kayleen, Robert, and Richelle, as well as her seven great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward the values she instilled: kindness, strength, and love.

Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dick; her parents Robert and Alta Anderson; and her brother Robert and sister in law Margaret Anderson. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Karen found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Spending many years camping and boating with her family every summer from the time her boys were babies into adulthood. But we would all agree spending time with her grandchildren was one of her biggest joys. Later in life she enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with numerous friends each week. These gatherings brought laughter and companionship into her life and were moments she truly treasured.

One of Karen’s most cherished accomplishments outside of her family was her involvement with Wreaths Across America. As Chairwoman for her area for several years, she worked tirelessly to honor veterans during the holiday season. In what would be her final year leading the effort, Karen achieved a deeply meaningful goal: ensuring that every headstone at Fort Lyon National Cemetery received a wreath—a testament to her dedication and respect for those who served.

Faith played an important role in Karen’s life. She found spiritual strength and community at Seed and Supply Church after being drawn there when her husband accepted Jesus Christ two decades ago. From that moment on, she attended faithfully, finding comfort and connection within its walls.

Karen made one final act of kindness: donating her body to science for the advancement of medicine. Her selflessness will continue to impact lives even beyond her passing.

Karen leaves behind a legacy of love, service, faith, and compassion. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at The Seed and Supply Church 746 Ash Ave., Las Animas CO 81054. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Karen's memory to The Seed and Supply Church.
