10th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting
Pueblo, CO: The 10th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team, led by the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, has been activated in response to an officer-involved shooting that stemmed from an incident that began in El Paso County and ended in a field west of Interstate 25 in Pueblo West. One person was injured. No law enforcement officers were injured.
The incident began at about 3:30 p.m. in Monument after Monument Police received a report that a 2025 Chevrolet Silvardo truck had just been stolen. Monument PD was able to locate the vehicle using OnStar, a satellite-based system, and followed it south on Interstate 25 into Colorado Springs. Monument Police were coordinating with Colorado Springs Police, Colorado State Patrol and Fountain Police to stop the suspect.
Colorado State Patrol was notified at about 3:45 p.m. of the stolen vehicle and minutes later, a State Patrol aircraft unit located the truck travelling south of Colorado Springs. The airplane followed the truck into Pueblo County where CSP Troopers set up near Mile Marker 110, in an attempt to disable the vehicle utilizing a grappler device.
CSP Troopers started pursuing the truck when the suspect exited I-25 at Exit 108 and drove west on Purcell Boulevard. Troopers continued to follow the truck and were attempting to deploy the grappler device, when the suspect fired at least one gunshot from the vehicle. Troopers who were then joined by Pueblo County Sheriff's deputies continued to follow the vehicle at a safe distance when the suspect drove off into a field near the intersection of Purcell Blvd and Fairbanks Drive.
The truck stalled in the field and the suspect fired additional gunshots. A Monument Police Officer, who had initially followed the suspect, returned fire. The suspect sustained injuries. Law enforcement agencies along with Pueblo West Fire rendered medical aid to the suspect and he was later transported by helicopter to a Colorado Springs hospital for treatment.
Law enforcement will remain on scene through the night as the 10th Judicial CIRT continues to investigate. The CIRT is composed of the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, the Pueblo Police Department, the Colorado State Patrol, the Colorado Bureau of Investigations and the 10th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
No further information will be released at this time.
