Obituary

Leroy Jose Gallegos, a beloved resident of Rocky Ford, Colorado, entered into rest peacefully on November 13, 2025, at the Fowler Nursing Care Center. He was born on February 8, 1935, in El Moro, Colorado to Eligia and Rosendo Gallegos. Leroy lived a full life of 90 years with so many wonderful memories with family and friends.

He is survived by his devoted children, Joby (Ruby) Gallegos of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Valerie Gallegos and Tammy Gallegos, both of Rocky Ford, Colorado. Leroy’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Daniel (Jessica Archuleta) Gallegos of Pueblo, Colorado; Marlana (Brandon Dickey) Gallegos of Florida; Felicia (Victor) Hernandez of Kansa City, Kansas; Robert Hillyer of Rocky Ford, Colorado; Terry Lee (Crissey Donar) Hillyer of Rocky Ford, Colorado; Joe Gallegos of Texas; Michael Gallegos of Lamar, Colorado, and Carlos Gallegos of Florida as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eligia and Rosendo Gallegos, his son Leroy Gallegos, Jr., and his brothers Albert “Shorty” Gallegos, Sammy Gallegos, Jerry Gallegos, and great-grandchildren Christopher Rodriquez, Vestara Hernandez, and Mya Gallegos.

Leroy was proud to have served his country in the United States Army and later enjoyed a fulfilling career at the American Crystal Sugar Factory. He was a dedicated Denver Broncos fan, loved fishing, and found joy in scratch tickets. Leroy treasured spending time with his family.

His warmth, kindness, and sense of humor will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025 10:00 A.M. at the Valley View Cemetery in Rocky Ford, Colorado. Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of the Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home. Online condolences and shared memories can be made at johnsonromero.com.
