Road Rage Incident in Pueblo Leads to Shooting and Arrest

On January 9, 2026, at approximately 6:04 p.m., Pueblo Police Dispatch received a report of a shooting victim who arrived at a local hospital's emergency room. 

Patrol officers interviewed the male victim, who indicated that while driving in the vicinity of Pine and Mesa Avenue, he had a verbal altercation with the occupants of another vehicle. He reported that following an exchange of words with the female driver, he was shot. 

Responding officers located a shell casing in the 1000 block of Pine Street based on the description provided by the victim. Detectives from the Non-Fatal Shoot Team subsequently arrived at both the hospital and the crime scene. They established that a road rage incident had occurred between the victim and the occupants of a black SUV that was no longer on scene.

While detectives were processing the scene, the black SUV returned. It’s male passenger, 50-year-old Danny Salazar, confessed to shooting the victim. He was arrested and booked into Pueblo County Jail on charges of 1st Degree Assault and Tampering with Physical Evidence. The investigation remains ongoing.
