Obituary

Glenn Lee Emmerling, also lovingly known to many as “Dutch”, was born on June 26, 1939 in Denver, CO to Johnny and Lois Emmerling. He was the oldest of seven children. He was raised on the family farm east of Genoa, CO where he helped tend crops and steward the sheep operation. He attended the Genoa School for his education and participated in the athletics program where he was an exceptionally talented basketball player.

Glenn married his lifelong high school sweetheart, Bette Kay Davis, on June 14,1961 in Denver, CO. To their union, their daughter Tammy was born. Shortly after, they moved to Montana where Glenn worked for a logging company. They later returned to their Colorado roots in Limon where Glenn started driving a truck for a living. He owned and operated his own trucks and also drove for numerous well respected trucking companies, his favorite being the Hopson and Ausmus families. He had a passion for driving and hauled anything that would move. In his later years, he even got a sparkle in his eye to be able to go on a drive in his beloved Ford pickup and haul pig feed for his great granddaughter.

Glenn and Bette returned to Boyero, CO after her retirement from a Colorado Springs company and they established Emmerling Farms. They built a home and ran a successful hog operation that they took great pride in. They had many customers and sold pigs to the local 4-H kids. During this time, Glenn went to work for Lincoln County Road and Bridge. He spent many hours running a bulldozer, opening and closing gravel pits. Upon his retirement, Glenn and Bette expanded their adventures to Texas during the winters for several years. Glenn especially loved the fishing and friendships they made along the way.

In his spare time, he enjoyed skeet shooting at the Schafer Ranch, wood working and fishing. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. His proudest moments came from all the years covering the country to support his Grandsons, Steven and Casey, in their sports and rodeo endeavors. Later, he was the number one fan to his great granddaughters Paisley and Mesa. He attended their music programs, sports games and rodeo events, always sitting in the front row with a smile from ear to ear. He

was known best for his humor, work ethic and ability to make a friend wherever he went. He will be deeply missed.

Glenn passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 8,2026 at the Lincoln Community Care Center in Hugo, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents Johnny and Lois Emmerling; brothers Tony Emmerling and Ed Emmerling; and wife Bette Kay Emmerling. He is survived by his daughter Tammy (Steve) Wiersma of Hugo, CO; grandchildren, Steven (Sara) Wiersma of Calhan, CO, Casey (Morgan) Wiersma of Boyero, CO; great grandchildren, Paisley and Mesa Wiersma; siblings, Betty Blazer, Rita Vicory, Tom Emmerling and Sam Emmerling and many other extended family and friends.
