Lascar Fire in Huerfano County Contained, Then Fully Extinguished After 50-Acre Blaze
At approximately 2pm the Lascar wildfire was declared to have been fully extinguished after extensive work by firefighting personnel. This is still an active investigation. The Huerfano County Sheriff's Office would like to give a big thank you to all personnel that responded! Without their hard work this fire could have been much worse. Please remember to be mindful of all sources of fire as we are under a Red Flag Warning.
At approximately 2:47am today the Huerfano County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of County Road 651 for a report of a wildfire. La Veta fire, Gardner fire, Huerfano County Fire Department, Rye fire, and the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office responded due to the size and rapid growth. Later Huerfano County Emergency Management called in Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control and Steel City hot shots to assist. This wildfire is being called "The Lascar" fire. The fire was declared 100% contained at approximately 5am. There fire burned approximately 50 acres. There are still firecrews on scene working to ensure there is no flare up. This fire is actively being investigated. Please avoid the area so crews can work. Please remember we are in a red flag warning.
