Culvert Failure Prompts Closure of CO 71 Between Rocky Ford and Ordway
Rocky Ford, Colo. — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has implemented an extended closure of Colorado Highway 71 between Rocky Ford and Ordway following a culvert failure at Mile Point 17.3, near Impassable Ditch Road, earlier this morning.
CDOT maintenance crews responded promptly after being notified of the issue. Teams have been on site assessing the damage and directing traffic to ensure public safety.
Due to the extent of the failure and the need for repairs, CO 71 will remain closed in both directions until further notice.
Detour Information
Motorists traveling through the area are advised to use the following signed detour route:
US Highway 50
Colorado Highway 207
Colorado Highway 96
Local traffic will continue to have access to properties from either side of the closure point.
CDOT urges drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and obey all posted signage and traffic control measures.
