Morning update, 5/18/2026 (09:00)

The fire line around the Campo area held very well overnight, and a limited number of crew as well as fire spotters stayed on scene to manage flare ups and monitor the entire line. As of now, an estimated 28,200 acres have burned, about 18,000 of that in Colorado. No occupied residences have been reported lost. At this time, no current evacuations remain in place but the wind is supposed to get bad again today. Please sign up for alerts at bacacountyco.gov/rave and follow emergency orders if posted. Please continue to avoid the area to allow crews to keep the line.

Please note: for future alerts, make sure to pay special attention to exact locations mentioned as some alerts may be sent to a slightly wider audience than necessary to make sure critical information gets to anyone who needs it. As a reminder for locations, county roads in our area are pretty easy to keep track of: the higher the number the further east the road is. And the further down the alphabet, the further north the road is. So for example, PP and 12 is well into the second alphabet count and 12 is pretty small, so that’s near the northwest corner. But C and 49 is a low letter and high number, therefore you’ll find it near the southeast corner.

A HUGE, HUGE thank you to every department and civilian who provided support yesterday — as of last count, more than 200 personnel both civilian and first responder joined the fight yesterday before release at about midnight. We are overwhelmed with gratitude. Resources will continue to monitor throughout the day as conditions could change quickly, please stay alert!
