Arrest Made in Pueblo Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash That Killed E-Bike Rider Richard J. Murillo

On May 20, 2026, officers arrested 26-year-old Ramon Ortiz for the fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on March 3, 2026. Ortiz is being charged with 2nd degree motor vehicle theft, DUR- driving under revocation, careless driving, failure to remain at the scene of a fatal accident, and failure to notify police of an accident.

On March 3, 2026, at approximately 4:30pm, Pueblo Police Officers were dispatched to Santa Fe Dr. and Northern Ave. in response to a traffic accident. Upon arrival, officers determined that an E-bike and a white Kia sedan were involved in the accident. The Kia had left the scene prior to the officers' arrival. The male rider on the E-bike was pronounced deceased at the scene; the Pueblo County Coroner identified the victim as Richard J. Murillo.
The Pueblo Police Department’s Real-Time Crime Center located the suspect vehicle and provided updates to responding officers. The unoccupied white Kia was found at 1300 S. Queens Ave. The vehicle was confirmed as reported stolen on March 2, 2026.
Traffic investigators are actively working on this case and seeking assistance in identifying the suspect who was seen leaving the white Kia. See the attached photo of the suspect to help the Pueblo Police Department identify this individual. The investigation remains ongoing.
This incident marks the fourth fatal accident investigated by the Pueblo Police Department this year.
All parties considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
