Former Sheriff's Sergeant Pleads Guilty to Felony Charge, Sentenced to Probation
Pueblo, CO: Jason Hanratty, a former Pueblo County Sheriff's Sergeant and vice president of the sheriff's employees' labor union, was sentenced today to three years of probation, after he pleaded guilty to felony theft in a case that involved his misuse of union funds from several of his fellow Sheriff's Office employees.
As part of the sentencing, Hanratty must pay restitution to his victims and to the Fraternal Order of Police.
Hanratty, 44, was arrested in June 2025 following an independent investigation by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office into allegations he unlawfully retained and misused funds collected from Pueblo County Sheriff's employees' paychecks after the dissolution of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge #7. Hanratty was found to have diverted $17,000 in union funds to his personal accounts. He was arrested on a warrant for felony theft and first-degree official misconduct.
Hanratty resigned from the Sheriff's Office on April 15. At the time of his resignation, he was assigned to the patrol division as a sergeant and had been the vice president of the International Brotherhood of Police (IBPO) # 837. IBPO currently represents PCSO employees. Hanratty had been employed at the Sheriff's Office since April 2007.
