Spilled Nails On Highway 285 Result in Damage
(Jefferson County, Colorado) – On June 2, 2026, at about 12:19 p.m., the Colorado State Patrol was notified of a traffic problem involving a semi-truck that spilled multiple boxes of nails/screws on the roadway in the area of westbound Highway 285 near milepost 247 (Morrison Exit).
Troopers were able to stop the vehicle and contact the driver who spilled the boxes onto the roadway, as well as five other vehicles that remained at the scene with damaged tires. Throughout the rest of yesterday and into today, troopers have fielded calls from over 50 drivers whose vehicles were affected by this incident.
The driver of the semi-truck fully cooperated with the investigation and has not yet been charged at the time of this release. Those drivers impacted were provided with insurance information to file a claim with the company of the semi-truck.
The Colorado Department of Transportation responded to the area of the incident and cleaned the nails/screws from the roadway.
