Man Sentenced to 26 Years for Aurora Carjacking and Kidnapping That Ended in Huerfano County Arrest

Man Sentenced to 26 Years DOC in 2025 Carjacking, Kidnapping Incident

Pueblo, CO: Shane McSwane, 29, was sentenced today to 26 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections for his role in the May 2025 carjacking and kidnapping of a woman in Aurora that ended with his arrest in Huerfano County.

McSwane was sentenced immediately after he pleaded guilty to felony charges of second-degree kidnapping and attempted aggravated robbery. A judge sentenced him to 13-year terms for each count. The sentences are to be served consecutively.

McSwane violently carjacked and kidnapped a woman in Aurora before driving south on I-25 into Pueblo County. Pueblo County Sheriff's deputies responding to a robbery of a Colorado City convenience store that involved a vehicle that matched the description of the carjacked vehicle.

Deputies located the vehicle driving northbound on Interstate 25 toward the City of Pueblo and attempted to stop the vehicle. McSwane eluded deputies, turning around and going southbound on the interstate, where he refused to stop.

Pueblo County Sheriff's deputies continued to pursue him into Huerfano County. Huerfano County Sheriff's deputies were able to successfully deploy stop sticks, deflating the vehicle's tires. A Pueblo County Sheriff's deputy did a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) and was able to get the vehicle stopped.

McSwane was taken into custody, and the female victim was safely rescued.

Great job by our detectives and deputies for their work in apprehending this suspect and investigating this case. We thank the 10th Judicial District Attorney's office for prosecuting this crime and securing a resolution that brings justice to the victim. We also want to thank our partners with the Huerfano County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in helping to stop the suspect and getting him into custody.
