Jacob "Jake" Dean Wager Obituary
April 7, 1988 - June 15, 2026
Obituary
A gathering to honor the life of Jacob is being planned for a later date.
Our family is devastated to share that our son, Jake Wager, has left us far too soon.
On June 15, 2026, at the age of 38, his sudden and unexpected passing has left us heartbroken. But, we choose to remember the incredible life he lived.
To know Jake was to know a Cowboy. He was an “old school” cowboy and preferred to do everything horseback, and with his rope. We often joked with him that he was possibly born 100 years too late – where everyone rode horses. He always had a rope in his hand – and this passion started for him at the age of 2 and was still with him at the time of his passing. His love for his family, horses, dogs, and cattle was undeniable. Jake loved to train and make great horses, not only for him, but for his family, friends, and peers.
Jake was born in Colorado Springs CO on April 7, 1988. He lived in Calhan until the 6th grade. Jake and his family moved to Elizabeth, Colorado. He graduated from Elizabeth High School where he excelled in varsity football, and high school rodeo. Immediately following high school
Jake joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). He was a successful team roper and traveled the United States living his dream. Some of his achievements were winning the Colorado High School Average Championship, qualifying for The Colorado Pro Rodeo Finals, qualifying to The PRCA Mountain States Circuit Finals.
He truly knew what it means to live life to the fullest. He taught us all how to appreciate the small things and never take a day for granted. His eyes, and his infectious smile would light up any room (and any arena). Jake had a heart of gold, and would do anything for anyone.
Jake leaves behind his grieving parents, Bret and Ronda Wager. His brother, Dustin Wager, and his sister-in-law Stacy Wager, two sweet, loving nieces, Dolce Wager, and Dalaney Wager. His grandparents, Jerry Wager, Mike and Patsy Tompkins. He was proceeded in death by his grandaddy Arnie Bevans, and his grandmommie, Dixie Bevans. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as countless friends who have become family.
We invite you to join us in honoring Jake. Details will be coming as we are planning a Celebration of Life, a casual luncheon, followed by a Team Roping. We ask that you bring a favorite memory of Jake!
Memorial contributions can be made to the Jake Wager Rodeo Scholarship Fund, in C/O Farmers State Bank of Kiowa, PO Box 630, Kiowa, CO 80117.
Friends and family can register online condolences and sign the guestbook at www.brownfuneraldirectors.com. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home in Limon, CO.
