La Junta Police Arrest Otero County Detention Deputy Valerie Alvarez on Criminal Mischief Domestic Violence Charge

La Junta, CO - On April 30, 2026, at approximately 8:18 a.m., officers with the La Junta Police Department responded to a report of criminal mischief within the City of La Junta.

Following an investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest Valerie Alvarez, a Detention Deputy with the Otero County Sheriff’s Office, for Criminal Mischief, C.R.S. 18-4-501. The investigation further determined that the offense qualified for a Domestic Violence designation pursuant to C.R.S. 18-6-800.3 due to the relationship between the involved parties.

On July 13, 2026, Alvarez was arrested and transported to the Otero County Jail, where she was booked on the above charge.

The case has been submitted to the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
