PSA: FLOODS FOLLOW FIRES.
As we've mentioned over the last couple weeks, flash flooding and debris flows will happen in areas on the Gold Mountain Burn Scar. These images are from tonight (7/26). Please pay attention to emergency notices about flash flooding and the damage it causes, as this is exactly what we're talking about.
At approximately 5PM this evening (7/26), we received reports of flooding on the Gold Mountain Burn Scar, specifically the Cutler Creek Drainage area. Our deputies, Undersheriff, Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado State Patrol, Emergency Management, Ouray County Road and Bridge, and other emergency responders, worked quickly to close the highway, provided help to residents in the nearby neighborhoods if needed, and get safety messaging out to the public. Good work by all. 
The highway reopened an hour later and CDOT crews will be in the area clearing debris this evening and tomorrow.
And a bit of good news...Sergeant Linnell saved a kiddos basketball from the debris pile.
