Walsenburg Police Seize 240 Grams of Suspected Meth, Fentanyl Pills and Handgun in Drug Investigation

Walsenburg Police Department Seizes Large Quantity of Narcotics and Firearm During Criminal Investigation
WALSENBURG, Colo. — August 1, 2026 — The Walsenburg Police Department is announcing the seizure of a significant quantity of illegal narcotics and a firearm following a criminal investigation that began on July 16, 2026.
Officers responded to Love’s Travel Stop after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance involving two individuals. During the course of the investigation, officers developed information indicating that a firearm and illegal narcotics were located inside a vehicle associated with the incident.
With the consent of the vehicle’s owner, officers conducted a search and recovered:
-Approximately 240.37 grams of suspected methamphetamine
-Approximately 100 suspected fentanyl pills weighing approximately 17.72 grams
-One handgun
-Approximately $440 in U.S. currency
Based on the quantity of narcotics recovered, investigators believe the evidence is consistent with the distribution of illegal controlled substances rather than possession for personal use.
Following a comprehensive investigation, probable cause was established to seek arrest warrants for Amanda Robyn O’Brien and Adonis Eugene Ortiz-Lopez on felony narcotics charges, including:
-Level 1 Drug Felony – Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine
-Level 2 Drug Felony – Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl
-The domestic violence allegations that initially brought officers to the scene were thoroughly investigated. At this time, investigators determined there was insufficient evidence to support the original allegation involving the reported assault with a firearm. The narcotics investigation, however, led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of dangerous drugs and an illegally possessed firearm.
“This investigation demonstrates the commitment of our officers to thoroughly investigating every call for service,” said Chief William “Bill” Vinelli of the Walsenburg Police Department. “What began as a domestic disturbance investigation ultimately resulted in the removal of a significant amount of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and a firearm from our community. Every seizure of this magnitude helps make Walsenburg safer by disrupting the distribution of dangerous narcotics that threaten the lives of our residents.”
