Description: A press release from La Junta Baptist Tabernacle...

Better Together!  La Junta Baptist Tabernacle & Valley Community Church

La Junta Baptist Tabernacle will be joining the Valley Community Church for our first official Sunday together on March 2nd. We were approached several months ago about merging our two churches together and we believe that God has indeed called us to change location and Merge with our brothers and sisters at Valley Community. We are announcing this here because we want the community to know about this team up.

Our Awana Program for k-6th grade children that meets on Monday nights from 6:30-8:30 at the Tabernacle will continue at the present building for the rest of the school year. Next school year it may still be held in the present building, or it may be moved to another building. Either way, we are determined to keep the Awana Program here in La Junta for the foreseeable future.

For those of us that have been attending and serving in the church for most of our lives, leaving the building and blending churches was a hard choice. The Tabernacle has been our church’s home for over 85 years. I have personally been attending the Tabernacle my entire life. Change can be difficult, but it can also be rewarding. God asks us to trust Him to work everything out for our good. He is the greatest example of sacrificing one thing in hope of something better.

In John 12 Jesus realizes His time on earth was short and said, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. 24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. 25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

Not long after Jesus taught this, He was betrayed, crucified and buried in a tomb. Three days later he rose from the dead and thisGood News (or “Gospel”) spread far and wide. His death provided payment for our sins and His resurrection gives us a confident hope of eternal life to all who would call upon Him. He has beaten sin and death and whoever puts their faith in His sacrifice can be forgiven based on His merit and not our own. Just as Jesus was raised to new life, so we who believe in Him are raised to new lives, free from the bondage of sin. We who have put our faith in Him, also look to “Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2

We are the joy set before Him and He would do it all again just to be with us! When our lives here are done, we are confident that we will be received to everlasting life because of His sacrifice. Jesus’ example of sacrifice inspires us. We are determined to follow Jesus wherever He may lead. We hope that in the future, our communities see new life from us in our new location. We look forward to serving God together in the Arkansas Valley.
