Rocky Ford Leaders Advocate for Rural Hospitals, Earn Statewide Representation on CML Executive Board

Description: Rocky Ford Councilman Robert Barron addressed Governor Polis on what the Governor’s office could do to protect critical rural hospitals like AVRMC. (Courtesy Image) Mayor Duane Gurulé was elected by the CML delegates to serve a 2-year term on the CML Executive Board. The CML Executive Board is made up of 21 members representing the 271 member cities/towns across Colorado.

Councilman Barron appealed to Governor Polis on AVRMC support and Polis gave the following response:

“That’s right, this will, and we hope they’re taken out of the bill or they start fresh, but right now they’re likely to be in there that we are very worried about the viability of our rural health care providers and hospitals and what I’m telling you is just like those hospitals can’t turn to your city and say “bail us out”. They also can’t turn to our state. You don’t have the money, we don’t have the money. We’re making cuts as it it. This is a federally administered program and they need to continue the funding.  Just so you know the State of Colorado is a contributor state, for every dollar we send to Washington, we only get about 90 cents back already and this will make it worse with these Medicaid cuts where we’re getting even less back.” - Governor Polis
