Obituary

Born in June of 1947, in La Junta, Colorado, Marsha Ross brought joy and warmth to every room she entered. A vibrant soul who cherished laughter and kindness, Marsha passed away on April 22, 2025, at the age of 77, leaving behind a legacy filled with love and community spirit.

A longtime resident of Gurnee, Illinois, Marsha spent her final days in Libertyville, Illinois where her vivacious nature and caring spirit touched the lives of many. Married nearly 59 years to her husband Jim, she is also survived by brother Michael Thomas, children Kimberly Ross, Jeff (Anne) Ross, grandchildren Bonnie Marciniak, Josie Ross, Ford Marciniak, Cooper Marciniak and Nola Ross as well as her many loving nieces and nephews and God children. She is preceded in death by parents J.E. and Lucille Thomas and sister Cathy (Thomas) Toft and niece MaryK Ross.

After dedicating herself to raising her family, Marsha showed her determination and passion for helping others by returning to college and earning her Bachelor’s degree in social work, setting an inspiring example of lifelong learning and service. Her heart for service was further seen through her active participation in the Rotary Club of Gurnee, President of the YWCA, scout leader, CCD teacher, Marsha was also a cherished member of Women of the Well, and found joy in her book club, where she shared countless stories and laughs with her treasured long-time friends.

Marsha’s outgoing and funny personality, combined with her genuine care for others, made her unforgettable in her community. Her laughter and smile were contagious, and her stories were legendary, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Marsha’s warmth and humor left smiles and memories with countless people. Her community engagement was not just a hobby; it was a reflection of her deep commitment to making the world a better place.

A celebration of Marsha’s life will take place on August 9, 2025, from 2 to 5pm, at StoryPoint, 901 Florsheim Dr. Libertyville, IL.

It will be a day to remember her vibrant spirit, share fond memories, and honor the incredible impact she had on everyone around her. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Marsha’s memory, continuing the spirit of love and service that defined her life.

Marsha will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and service will continue to inspire us all. Gurnee Salata Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
