Rocky Ford Public Works Employees Recovering After Accident; Trash Service Continues with Community Support

Public Works Update – July 16, 2025

I want to take a moment to provide an update on the tragic accident that occurred yesterday involving three of our Public Works employees.

First and foremost, we are incredibly thankful to report that all three of our injured crew members are in good spirits. While the accident was serious, we thank God that it wasn’t worse. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they recover.

As we shared yesterday, our neighbors in La Junta have graciously stepped in to assist with today’s commercial refuse route. Their willingness to help during this difficult time means a great deal to us, and we are truly grateful for their support.

Yesterday, we assembled a crew and did our best to complete the route using our older backup unit—Truck 2. This truck is much slower and less efficient, so if your trash was missed, we sincerely apologize. Please don’t hesitate to call City Hall at 719-254-7414, and we will do everything we can to ensure your service is completed.

Moving forward, Unit 2 will remain in service as we continue our refuse operations. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work through these challenges and begin the process of replacing the damaged equipment.

To our injured employees—we are thinking of you, praying for your full recovery, and we’re here for you every step of the way.

To our community—thank you for your support, your grace, and your kindness as we navigate this difficult moment together.

With appreciation,

Rick Long

Public Works Director

City of Rocky Ford
