La Junta Police Secure Firearm at Tiger Trades Academy; Juvenile in Custody

On Tuesday, September 23rd, the La Junta Police Department responded to an anonymous tip regarding a student possibly bringing a firearm to Tiger Trades Academy.

Upon the student's arrival, school staff immediately intervened, separating him from the rest of the student body to ensure safety. A responding officer made contact with the student, who admitted to having a weapon. The officer safely secured the firearm and placed the juvenile into custody.

The juvenile was subsequently transported to the Pueblo Youth Center (PYC), where he is being held on the following charges:

Unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon, Possession of handguns by juveniles prohibited, and Unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds.

At no time were students or staff in danger. The La Junta Police Department and Tiger Trades Academy remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all students and staff.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and proven guilty in a court of law.
